beautiful, ornate antique card case or small box, c.1910-20s in date. The box is in base metal which has rubbed and darkened with age and use to give a mixture of silver-gold tone colours. It has an ornate engraved pattern all over, the base has a dulled silver patina and the lid is dark silver on the raised areas and more golden in between. The lid is decorated with a raised filigree 'cartouche' in the centre, which has raised feather shapes and settings for jewels. The jewels are multi-coloured with a larger oval blue glass stone in the centre, surrounded by multi-coloured diamantes. All stones are present, The box has a good hinge and closure, and inside has some darkening and marks. Approx. 78mm by 50mm across the top and 10mm deep, it was made for business cards but could have other purposes
